Wine from all the best places - France, Italy and Scotland
The Belfry’s annual fine wine auction takes a Scottish twist.
Victoria, BC...Staff, volunteers and board members from the Belfry Theatre have been raiding some of Victoria’s best wine cellars to find rare and unusual wines to auction off at Crush, the theatre’s premiere wine event.
This year’s event will feature wine from France, Italy, Spain, Australia, British Columbia and two exceptionally rare offerings of single malt scotch whisky from Scotland.
The majority of these wines are not currently available in liquor stores. As such, Crush represents a unique opportunity for Victorians to buy some truly collectable wines that have been held in private cellars, purchased abroad or were released in very small batches that subsequently sold out.
Crush will take place on Sunday, October 22 from 5 to 8 pm at the Inn at Laurel Point, 680 Montreal Street, Victoria. Tickets, $95 (tax included) at 250-385-6815 or online at https://tickets.belfry.bc.ca.
While the live auction is the highlight of the evening, there is something for everyone (over 19). The evening’s agenda:
5 pm - Wine & cider tastings start - featuring more than 50 wines from 34 vineyards and four cideries. The tastings are accompanied by Chef Takashi Ito’s dazzling hors d’oeuvres, and his talented team will also prepare risotto on the spot for Crush guests.
6 pm - Guests move to the auction room, where sommelier and wine educator Earl Wilde will introduce each auction lot and auctioneer Roshan Vickery will get the bidding started.
Robert Moyes, who writes a monthly wine column in Monday Magazine (Perfectly Potable), is preparing comprehensive wine notes for the event’s auction catalogue. His notes are updated frequently and are available here - http://www.belfry.bc.ca/crush-live-auction/ - in advance of the event.
7 pm - The wine and cider tastings resume and guests are encouraged to participate in the silent auction where they can bid on wine, luxury dining experiences, custom travel packages, and one-of-a-kind treasures and adventures.
The evening finishes at 8 pm, and for those guests who are attending from out of town or who want to extend their experience, the Inn at Laurel Point is offering guests a special room rate, starting at $119. Call 1-800-663-7667 to book.
Crush is generously supported by Odlum Brown, the Inn at Laurel Point, Boulevard Magazine, Everything Wine and EAT Magazine.
