Crush - A Fine Wine Affair - Sunday, October 21, 2018

This year’s live auction features an 1845 bottle of Cossart Gordon Madeira Solera Bual from Portugal.

Victoria, BC…Crush, the Belfry Theatre’s eighth annual fine wine auction and tasting event, takes place at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort (100 Harbour Road, Victoria) on October 21 at 5 pm. Tickets are $95 at https://www.belfry.bc.ca/crush or 250-385-6815.

This year’s live auction features the oldest vintage bottle yet: a Cossart Gordon Madeira Solera Bual from Portugal from 1845, valued at over $1200.

The majority of these wines are not currently available in liquor stores. Crush represents a unique opportunity for Victorians to buy some truly collectable wines that have been held in private cellars, purchased abroad or were released in very small batches that subsequently sold out.

There will also be more modestly valued bottles in the 21-lot auction. Wine enthusiast Robert Moyes has written descriptions (https://www.belfry.bc.ca/crush-live-auction-2018/) for each bottle on the block.

Single malt scotch whisky likes to get in the act too. A 1972 Clynelish “Caledonia” Single Malt and a 1974 Glencadam “Connoisseurs Choice” Single Malt will be on the block.

Sommelier and wine educator Earl Wilde is our auction host and will regale the crowd with stories for each bottle up on the block. Roshan Vickery is our auctioneer extraordinaire and the two of them make an informative and entertaining team.

Crush also features tastings from BC’s best wineries and cideries, hors d’oeuvres, live music (Joey Smith Trio), and more. Chef Craig Stoneman will dazzle your palate with exquisite cuisine to complement the fine wine and cider tastings.

Sommelier Pamela Sanderson of Hire a Somm will guide guests through a fun and friendly-but-competitive blind tasting.

An accompanying silent auction features wine gift baskets and packages, dining, travel and other unique experiences of interest to the wine lover in every price bracket.

The evening finishes at 8 pm, and for those guests who are attending from out of town or who want to extend their experience, the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort is offering guests a special room rate, starting at $159. Reservations can be made here - https://goo.gl/kEDqS2 (valid to October 1).

Tickets are $95 and all proceeds from Crush will benefit the Belfry, Victoria’s leading professional theatre company and its beautifully renovated 19th Century building in the heart of Fernwood.

Crush is generously supported by Odlum Brown Limited, Boulevard Magazine, EAT Magazine, Everything Wine, 98.5 The Ocean and the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort.
