BMO Financial Group commits $100,000 to the Belfry Theatre for naming rights to the BMO Studio Theatre.

Victoria, BC….Today, at the Belfry Theatre’s 2019-20 Season Launch, Executive Director Ivan Habel announced that the BMO Financial Group will make a significant contribution to the Belfry’s capital campaign. In return BMO will be given naming rights to the company’s second performance space, the BMO Studio Theatre.

“The BMO Financial Group has for many years been a key supporter of our programming through their sponsorships” said Habel “The importance of this additional major gift to the upgrade and maintenance of an arts facility cannot be overstated. This beautiful heritage building provides the framework on which our art is built.”

BMO Financial Group’s lead gift enabled the Belfry to replace seating in the BMO Studio Theatre. It also helped leverage additional funding from the Province of BC (Community Gaming Capital Grant) and our long time benefactor Mr Paddy Stewart to also begin the costly replacement of our outdated production lighting equipment.

“At BMO, we have a legacy of giving back and we continually look for ways to have a positive impact on the customers and areas where we do business,” said Michael Bonner, Regional President, B.C & Yukon, BMO Bank of Montreal. “We are excited to support a unique cultural space like the Belfry Theatre and look forward to enjoying the space, alongside the community.”

The Belfry began producing plays in 1976 and we produce contemporary plays, with an emphasis on new Canadian work.

In the past 40 plus years the Belfry has produced 333 plays, including 252 Canadian plays, and 60 premieres. Many of those premiere productions have gone on to acclaim across Canada, in the U.S., Australia, Europe and London’s West End.
