A Moment with T - The Solo Traveler
An evening of storytelling

Victoria, BC – On March 7, 2025, Thembie Moyo (a Zimbabwean playwright and storyteller), Nathan Hellner-Mestelman (a neurodivergent high school student), and Rebeca Dunn-Krahn (a flamenco artist and tech industry escapee) will present an evening of unapologetic storytelling, full of raw humour, and unexpected insights on life’s challenges and triumphs at the Belfry's BMO Studio. The evening is hosted by Reem Girgrah, a queer, multiracial Yemeni storyteller dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices.
The stories are:
A Moment with T - The Solo Traveler (Thembie Moyo)
Since migrating to Canada, Thembie has delighted audiences with short performances and storytelling. She is now ready to represent 'A Moment with T, The Solo Traveler' a full-length show featuring excerpts from her upcoming memoir. This intimate performance is a glimpse into her inner workings to self-discovery, vulnerable moments, and lived experiences. Driven by passion, Thembie wants to create connections through stories, emotions and reflections – a gift to her building audience, who have been yearning for more.
Tales from Tech (Rebeca Dunn-Krahn)
How do you learn to embrace constant change? How do you build a life from ones and zeroes? Tales from Tech is an irreverent retrospective of one woman’s 20-year career in the software industry. From windowless basements to great glass elevators, muddy trails to float planes, mass layoffs to hiring sprees, the experience was anything but predictable.
The Dork Side (Nathan Hellner-Mestelman)
A nerd doesn’t walk into a bar, usually because the bar is set too high. After devoting his teenage years to writing prose, studying astrophysics, and reading old literature, 17-year-old Nathan now turns to a new frontier of research: whatever the hell this “social life” fiasco is all about. When smalltalk scores an F without fail, when date rejections exceed grant rejections, and when BFF stands for Bachelor of Failed Friendships, how does a teen take the preposterous leap from cartesian planes to shopping malls, movie nights, and even, god forbid, high school romance? The Dork Side is a neurodivergently neurotic story of academic affection—told firsthand by a person who’s spent more time clicking with lisp than kissing with lips.
Bios
Thembie Moyo
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Thembelihle (Thembie) Moyo is an acclaimed playwright, storyteller, producer, and multimedia artist, as well as a proud mother of two daughters. Her internationally anthologized play I Want to Fly (2019) has featured in classrooms and stages worldwide. Recent works like It’s Just Black Hair (2022), The Dark Bridge (2022), and Unbroken Chains of Ndondo (2023) further establish her as a storyteller who uplifts marginalized voices and confronts uncomfortable truths.
She continues to challenge boundaries through her creative vision, including her newest play, Virtual Bondage, which was workshopped at the Belfry Theatre in 2024.
Rebeca Dunn-Krahn
Rebeca Dunn-Krahn is an essayist, flamenco artist, and tech industry escapee. Her writing has appeared in Geez, Mountain Bluebird, and True Story magazines, online and in anthologies. She studies at Ariel Gore’s School for Wayward Writers and lives on Vancouver Island.
Nathan Hellner-Mestelman
Nathan Hellner-Mestelman would quickly die without a pen in hand. He’s the author of Cosmic Wonder (2024) and The Language of the Stars (2025), and runs the planetarium at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, meaning he earns his modest wage by sparking existential crises in innocent citizens. He’s a fervent slam poet, unrequited lover of the cosmos, and fiendishly nerdy. His writing has featured in Sky’s Up and the former SkyNews astronomy magazines. He currently studies at Mount Douglas Secondary, and lives in Victoria with his two cats and family.
Reem Girgrah
Reem Girgrah is a queer, multiracial Yemeni, cis-woman, settler and uninvited visitor on the territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples. For 16 years, Reem has been involved in various areas to address gender-based violence through supporting survivors and providing education on sexualized violence prevention. Reem is so honoured to continuously witness and learn about people’s journeys of authenticity, resistance and healing through story and art.
